Collaborations….

For me, collaboration is where tradition meets transformation. With a foundation in Bharatanatyam and a background in Western classical music, I’m constantly drawn to creative intersections — spaces where disciplines, cultures, and perspectives converge.

Whether working with Irish instrumentalists, Hindustani percussionists, or contemporary artists, I approach each collaboration as a dialogue — one that honors the roots of each form while allowing something new to emerge. These projects are not just performances, but shared explorations of rhythm, emotion, and artistic possibility.

Project Navarasa by The Art of Collaboration

As part of the Redline Book Festival, I collaborated with a group of Irish classical musicians, bringing together the sounds of the clarinet, fiddle, and bodhrán in an experimental performance titled Navarasa. The project explored the nine core emotions of Bharatanatyam through both Indian and Western classical compositions — including Muthuswami Dikshitar’s English Notes and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.

This unique collaboration was presented at the Civic Theatre and received warm appreciation for its emotional depth and cross-genre musicality. Working closely with the musicians, we found new textures in familiar works, discovering common threads between rhythm, melody, and expression across cultures.

Bharatanatyam and Hindustani Music

I had an opportunity to collaborate with the renowned tabla artist Debujyoti Sanyal to create Taal Nritya, a rhythmic dialogue between Bharatanatyam and Hindustani classical music. The piece focused on shared rhythmic structures (taal) and improvisational expression, resulting in a performance that felt both grounded in tradition and refreshingly new.

Taal Nritya was showcased at esteemed venues such as the Pearse Museum, resonating with audiences across Ireland. The experience deepened my appreciation for the nuances of Hindustani rhythm and its synergy with the sculptural geometry of Bharatanatyam.

These collaborations have been some of the most enriching moments in my journey as an artist — reminding me of the universal nature of classical forms and their potential to connect, evolve, and inspire. I’m always open to new artistic partnerships that push boundaries and celebrate shared creativity.
